So after the drubbing in round 1, we moved onto a new team. They had Cryx, Cygnar and Ret in their team. Our Menoth player who was quite new wanted to play into Cygnar to see if the game was different to his Round 1 match (he had gone up against a local store owner/WTC player running a fantastic Haley3 list). That left my and our Cryx player into their Cryx and Ret player. With just a bit of peer pressure, we ended up with a Cryx mirror (thank god) and I got to play their Ret bloke. I had actually got to play this guy at the last tourney I had made it to months ago, so I was looking forwards to a rematch (he had beaten me last time).

My lists: As I had played Mohsar R1, I wanted to play Grayle this round. Not very tactical probably but I just wanted to be able to say I had played Grayle in a tournament to a mate of mine, and if I put it off any longer I might forget!
List choices: List 2 v List 1 Scenario: Spread the Net Priority roll: He won the roll and chose to go first
Deployment:
Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of deployment. I had Grayle, his beasts and the Skinwalkers in the centre, Wolves of Orboros on each flank, Gremlins on the right and other solos and Death Wolves on the left, one unit of Wolves in Ambush.
My opponent bricked up hard in the middle (it is Helynna), with an eye to walking around the fire clouds he has on the right.
Turn 1
Retribution Turn 1A
Rhythm of War goes up on Helynna, she charges and everyone else runs up.
Circle Turn 1B
Storm Rager goes on the Wolf Lord, Death March goes on the Skinwalkers and Grayle charges (or walks?) up. {As I write this, I realise I miscounted Fury for my spells, but as I never recast them and wasn’t able to be hit this turn it didn’t change anything}
Turn 2
Retribution Turn 2A
Helynna walks up and casts Hand of Destruction on the Skinwalkers. His Sentinels run up a bit, but don’t go too deep. He gets his Manticores moving and puts covering fires out all over the place. Everything else runs, he doesn’t trigger vengeance.
Circle Turn 2B
I spend 5ish minutes at the start of the turn looking at the board. With nobody within 4” of his flag and only 1 Sentinel contesting mine, I could conceivably go to 3 this turn and then just try and outscore him while jamming, in the hope that I can get there before I fail so hard on the armour-cracking. Wolves ambush in with an eye to jam his zone. Grayle goes first, walks across and feats. The Gnarlhorn goes and hides where he was behind the building, using Earth’s Blessing to avoid getting pulled/pushed out of the zone. The Gremlin Swarm runs to his flag, giving me 1. The War Wolf goes to the flag on the left, securing me another 1 CP after Morraig kills the contesting Sentinel and repositions away. The Wolves of Orboros charge/run in, ensuring he can only get 2-3 guys with vengeance from his mostly intact Sentinel unit. My ambushing unit runs in and jams the zone. I should have run more guys in front to stop his vengeance getting any more distance but I didn’t think of it until his turn. Finally, between the Skinwalkers (who pop minifeat) and the Wolves of Orboros (who also pop minifeat) on the right, I kill 7 Sentinels. So in the end I score 3 (my zone and both flags).
Turn 3
Retribution Turn 3A
The right Sentinels vengeance and kill 3 guys, the left Sentinel unit kills 7 across both units of Wolves with their vengeance. Helynna feats, and puts an Obliteration out on the clump of bodies I have blocking the way. With stealth from the feat forcing the scatter (he couldn’t get within 5” without being in Night Howls range), 2 Wolves die. The Manticore rolls 3 shots, walks over and leaves the Gremlin Swarm on 1 health, but contests the flag. The Scyir also goes and contests the flag after his righteous vengeance killed another Wolf in the middle clump. The Sentinels on the right kill 2 more Wolves of Orboros. The Sentinels on the left kill 6 all up, the Manticore kills another 2, leaving 3 in his zone. The Invictors clear 2 more, but 1 survives, leaving his zone unscorable. The Invictors also put down one of the Skinwalkers. Because he couldn’t contest my zone through all the bodies, I am able to score 1 more taking me to 4-0.
Circle Turn 3B
I pull off my beasts, upkeep and do nothing (durdle 0 sort of thing) activations before passing turn and going to 5-0. In total this round, my team scored 7 CP and 0 AP, going 1-2. We. Are. Amazing.
Thoughts: Opponent: My opponent was a top bloke, allowing me to proxy the Gremlin Swarm (my friend who had said he would bring me one failed me) even though I had offered to play down points. He took some horrid dice very well (never seen someone miss so many hard 6s with an elite unit like Sentinels) and just helped make it a really positive game, which was exactly what I was hoping for. After the game we talked about it, and we figured if he had jammed harder on turn 2A with his feat and Sentinel minifeat up it would have been completely different. Two happy games in a row and by this point the day was already a success.
My army/play: The army did all that it could. I think the problem is that, if he had feated and minifeated, the army wouldn’t have done half of what it did, and then I’d be at best 2-0 up on scenario, with a much worse game ahead of me. Ah well, it was still great fun to play!
